“I would consider myself a intermediate athlete, and this machine truly challenges me. I expect I'll get many years of use out of it. It is made of very good quality components, and looks great.

I highly recommended rowing to anyone looking for a very aerobic workout that uses more than 80% of your body's muscle groups. If you're not getting an awesome workout, you're probably not rowing right. Try join a rowing club for a few months to perfect your technique, then you'll be set for working out at home.

Though it is pricey, I think it is worth the investment, since the experience is so much better then the piston or wind based machines, which makes me look forward to the next workout.”

Concept 2 machines work on air resistance to capture the rhythm and feel of rowing on the water by using a carefully balanced and calibrated flywheel. The resistance you feel is the wind resistance generated by the spinning flywheel. With no brake pads to wear out and no friction mechanism to generate heat, the flywheel motion is quiet, smooth, long-lasting, and maintenance-free. The spiral damper lets rowers choose the feel of a sleek, fast boat or a slow, heavy boat.

The Concept 2 frame also features an aluminum I-beam monorail with a stainless-steel seat track. The maximum user weight of 500 lbs makes it perfect for heavy use in health clubs and boathouses.

Okay just to let you know I am a researcher. I did my home work before buying a Concept 2. I just needed something to get back into shape that I could do at home. This rower is the best on the market. There are some less expensive and some that are more, don't be fooled by less expensive that say there just like the Concept (they are cheaper for a reason). This is the best all round work out you can get from a piece of equipment in your house. Yes it is big but if you are using the way you should you will never have it stored. Just spend the money and get the best.

“After having purchased an inexpensive piston rower (which was not so bad, by the way) I tried in a fitness shop some magnetic rowers and I found them much better. So I shopped around and I tried the Tunturi R30, The Kettler Coach, the Fitness Quest Integrity 3000, the Water Rower, the Lifecore R900, the Life Span and the Body Craft VR 100. I found that the Body Craft has the best value for money ratio. It is built very well, its ergonomics are handsome, the workout is fantastic, and the price is very acceptable.

I particularly like the position of the footpedals and of the handle-bar, which I think is perfect.

It also looks like it is very durable and it will last forever. I am very much satisfied, and would recommend it to everyone looking for a classy rower at a very honest price.”

“I've never had a rower before and when running was tearing up my joints, I decided to try something else. The low impact on your body is great, although I'm a bit disappointed about the calorie count. It's about a quarter of what I used to burn when running, but that makes sense, as you're not exerting as much energy. My settings are at maximum, but I could still use more. Overall, the machine does what it's supposed to do and I'm happy with it so far.”

“I researched different rowing machines for months before finally settling on this particular one. The best rower on the market is an American made concept II, which uses a fan system and has a very sophisticated computer for tracking and comparing progress. At about $900, it seemed like a steal when compared to other European rowers that used either water or air fans, like Tunturi, priced between $1100 and $1600. I decided then to compare on Amazon to see what comments people were leaving about the less expensive rowers. As expected, most of them received pretty bad reviews except this one. At $120 with free shipping and handling, I decided it was worth the risk. It's adjustable resistance hydraulic pump seems to work better and quieter than more expensive models and it can store in a more compact space, but the pump can get extremely hot and sometimes smells like it's burning. I think the biggest downside is that it's fairly obvious that most of the parts aren't going to last very long (why I only gave 4 stars), but even if you buy 10 of these over 10 years you're still not going to spend as much as you would on the upscale models. “
